“I’m sitting in the bathtub.  I don’t know why.  Somebody asked me the question, ‘What do you do when you get stressed?  I get stressed out from a lot of homework, and I’m wondering what you do.’”

“She [Anne Lamott] wrote a book called ‘Bird by Bird’ which was a book on writing. And in it she tells this story of when she was younger and she had to do a project on birds and her parents told her, instead of stressing out about how big the project is and how long it is going to take and how behind you are, just kind of take it bird by bird.  And it is a really good lesson in life, when things start coming at you, just take them one at a time.  Deal with them individually and don’t let yourself get weighed down by the enormity of everything.  Stress is really hard to deal with and it stays with you your whole life if you don’t find a way to kind of breathe and relax and just take it bird by bird, just one thing at a time, just figure out what you can do today and go to bed knowing you’ve done everything you can.  It’s gonna be okay, I don’t know if I’m talking to you or to me right now.  But I know that I’m in a shower.  Why listen to what I have to say, I’m obviously a crazy person.” [x]
